Canada Visa Photo Requirements

Unlike many countries where head height covers 70% to 80% generally, Canadian authorities enforce strict millimeter caliper measurements for the face: the vertical length from the bottom of the chin to the crown of the head must be between 31 mm and 36 mm.

The outer frame of the printed photograph must measure at least 35 mm in width and 45 mm in height (1 3/8 inches by 1 3/4 inches). The face must be positioned directly in the center of the frame, with the full front view of the head and top of the shoulders clearly visible.

The vertical distance from the base of the chin to the top of the head (including hair) must measure no less than 31 mm (1 1/4") and no more than 36 mm (1 7/16"). Photos where the head is smaller than 31 mm or larger than 36 mm are rejected by IRCC processing centers.

• •Quantity: Exactly two (2) identical photos.
• •Paper: Must be printed on continuous-tone, quality photographic paper.
• •Reverse Side: The back of one photo must bear: the applicant's full name and date of birth, the date the photo was taken, and the name and complete address of the commercial photography studio.
• •Recency: Photos must be taken within the previous six (6) months.

The background must be plain white or light-coloured. Shadows on the face, ears, or background are strictly prohibited. Lighting must be uniform and balanced across both sides of the face.

Tinted or dark sunglasses are never permitted. Clear prescription glasses are acceptable only if the eyes are fully visible and there is zero glare on the lenses. Head coverings worn for religious beliefs or medical reasons are permitted, provided the full facial oval is visible.
